Crowdsourcing turns transportation system users into real-time sensors on system performance, providing low-cost, high-quality data on traffic operations, roadway conditions, travel patterns, and more. Agencies can make roadways safer and more reliable, improve operational efficiency, and support cost-effective monitoring through crowdsourcing for operations. This webinar describes practices & strategies for vendor engagement for operational uses of crowd data and beyond. Target Audience Transportation agencies, traffic/transportation management center personnel, GIS and mapping staff, emergency management organizations, and public safety agencies.

- Greg Jones, FHWA Traffic Management Specialist, Crowdsource Data Innovation National Support Team -
Mr. Jones has been with the Federal Highway Administration since 1984. He has been a member of the FHWA Resource Center since 1999. In 2006 Mr. Jones also accepted a dual appointment as a member of the FHWA Headquarters’ Office of Operations. As a member of the Operations Technical Support Team, Mr. Jones provides national technical support in the following areas:

Mr. Jones is a member of the Transportation Research Board’s High Occupancy Vehicle/Managed Lane Committee. He is chair of the TRB Freeway Management and Operations Handbook subcommittee. He is also an active participant on the Freeway Operations Committee and the Active Traffic Management subcommittee.
Mr. Jones has a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee.
- Chris Lambert, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet - Chris Lambert worked for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) for 22 years where he served in various positions. His most recent work was in Intelligent Transportation Systems where his responsibilities included: managing the public-private-partnership with Google/Waze and implementing a real-time data system which supports Traveler Information System (GoKY), Automated Crash Detection, Snow and Ice Decision Support, and Work Zone Monitoring. On December 1st, Chris transitioned to the private sector and now works for Applied Engineering Management (AEM) as part of their Transportation Data Science team.
- Michael Pack, University of Maryland CATT Lab - Michael Pack is the founder and director of the CATT Laboratory where he sets the strategic vision for his team of 100+ data scientists, software developers, systems integrators, and transportation professionals to make federal, state, and local transportation data easily accessible and usable by diverse user communities. Through the development of innovative applications and data visualization tools, Michael’s team enables data sharing, informed decision-making, better response to emergencies, insight discovery, and increased productivity.
Mr. Pack has been honored at the White House as a Champion of Change for his leadership in integrating vast amounts of data from around the country into the Regional Integrated Transportation Information System, for his performance management applications, and for his efforts in breaking down the barriers within agencies that prevent data from being leveraged to its fullest potential.
Mr. Pack has previously worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Center for Transportation Analysis. He currently serves on the Performance Management Committee and is chair of the Visualization Committee at TRB.
Colby Fortier-Brown, Maine DOT - Colby Fortier-Brown is an engineer in Maine’s Traffic and ITS Group. He has been working with this group for year and has focused on the integration and use of live data for TMC operations.
